A pesar de la genialidad del concepto de #Metaverso, cuestiono la legitimidad del modelo social por el que apuesta y su impacto en las relaciones entre las personas, sus cuerpos y el planeta.
A propósito del #UNClimateChangeConference #cop26 pensé en esas edificaciones alrededor del mundo, masivas, ruidosas y refrigeradas mecánicamente, trabajando sin parar para almacenar nuestros datos (selfies, archivos, videos, músicas y también este post) consumiendo cantidades ingentes de energía.
Nos dicen que estos sistemas funcionan con energías renovables cuando en la mayoría de los casos lo que hacen estas empresas es hacer inversiones en energías renovables mientras que el #preciodelaelectricidad sube inesperadamente.
Sin tener yo mucha idea sobre energía, datos o inversiones, me pregunto cómo va a impactar al planeta el consumo energético de esta realidad digital paralela que pensamos construir desde cero.

The concept of #Metaverse is brilliant but I am unsure about the sociological model it proposes and how it will impact relationships between individuals, their bodies and the planet we live in.
As the #UNClimateChangeConference #cop26 takes place in Glasgow, I think about all our data (selfies, files, videos, music, this post, etc) stored not in actual clouds, but archived in enormous and noisy buildings around the world, artificially cooled and using massive amounts of energy to run 24/7.
These companies may tell us they use renewable energy but in most cases what they are really doing is just investing in renewable energy credits as nations experience unexpected rises in their #electricityrates.
Without knowing much about data, energy, or investments I ask myself how is our planet going to cope with the impact of having to power this new computer generated dreamworld.
